Following their victory over the zombified Sid, the team— Maka , Soul , Black☆Star , and Tsubaki—tracks down Sid's creator, the mad scientist . Stein is a patchwork man who operates out of a lab and is known for his intense desire to dissect anything and everything.

In a comedic subplot, attempts to rush to the students' aid. However, his debilitating obsession with symmetry causes him to collapse in the hallway because he's worried he didn't fold a piece of toilet paper perfectly, preventing him from ever reaching the lab.
