The movie takes us back to the 1970s, where a young Gru (voiced by Steve Carell as an adult and Matt McMullen as a child) dreams of becoming a supervillain. Gru joins the Vicious 6, a group of powerful female villains led by the intimidating and complex Bellatrix Lestrange-like, Mastermind (voiced by Julie Andrews). As Gru tries to prove himself, he befriends a group of Minions, including Stuart, Kevin, and Bob, who become his loyal and endearing sidekicks.
