In a snowy, jazz-infused Greenwich Village, ( Kim Novak ) lives a life of quiet boredom. To the world, she is the proprietor of a primitive art gallery; in secret, she is a modern-day witch who shares her home with her Siamese familiar, Pyewacket .

Gillian’s interest is piqued by her neighbor, the handsome publisher ( James Stewart ). When she discovers Shep is engaged to her old college rival, Merle Kittridge , Gillian decides to have a bit of fun. On Christmas Eve, she uses Pyewacket to cast a powerful love spell.
